Slovakia Industrial Output Slows on Year in December

Industrial production in Slovakia fell 0.1% year-on-year in December, slowing from a 1.9% fall in the previous month, the Slovak Statistical Office (SÚSR) said in a statement on Friday.

Output rebounded for manufacturing (0.4% vs -2.2% in November). Meanwhile, output declined at a faster pace for mining & quarrying (-15.1% vs -0.1%), and tumbled for electricity, gas, steam & air-conditioning supply (-2.1% vs 0.3%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial production grew by 3.1% in December.

In another statement the Bratislava-based statistics agency said that Slovakia's construction output slumped 12.1% year-on-year in December, reversing a 6.9% growth in the previous month.

This was the first contraction since April and the sharpest fall since February 2021. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, construction output was lower by 9.9%. For the full 2023, the construction sector recorded a year-on-year increase of 1.1%.
